The importance of the Murtis were mentioned in holy Upanishads, which were composed in 1st millennium BCE.
When the soul comes on planet Earth, it forgets its divine origin. Murtis are the door to this divine existence. Murti is a kind of medium or bridge for the human beings to connect with the divine energy, residing in themselves. It is a symbol of that connection of a human being with his origin, which cannot be lost, is infinite & eternal, beyond space & time.
Murtis are physical manifestation of the divine energy, which in fact can never be manifested. Its a huge paradox, but spirituality merges all such paradoxes into “oneness”.
Murtis start the spiritual journey, unknowingly calming the mind, when one stands / sits in front of it. Murtis also have some inexplicable magic in them, which washes out all the pains & sorrows and what is left behind is the spiritual bliss and ecstasy.
While making a Murti, the Shilpa-Shastra i.e. the science of arts & crafts should be maintained. But what’s equally important is the expression on the face of Murti, because this is what connects a devotee with his / her deity.
Marble / Natural Stone being the only material used in the Murtis, is known since ages for the divinity, protection, stability and structural beauty.
Murtis not only improve the aesthetic of your space, but also bring peace & love.
